Editors’ Note:
Alamosa Citizen will publish statements from public officials about issues specific to the San Luis Valley.
Douglas County Commissioners:
Conservation and protection of the water resources of the Rio Grande basin are vital to the continued economic prosperity and cultural values of the San Luis Valley. To protect the economy, culture and well-being of the Rio Grande basin it is necessary to safeguard and maintain the water available for the water users within the basin.
The export of water by Renewable Water Resources (RWRl to Douglas County is a direct threat to the San Luis Valley’s economy, culture and well-being. The export of water from the Rio Grande basin is contrary to and harms the sustainable water goals within the basin. There is no water available to export.
We vigorously oppose RWR’s proposal to export water from the Rio Grande basin to Douglas County. We ask that Douglas County denies RWR’s request for funding for this ill-conceived proposal.
