Adams State Choir Concert is Thursday
THE Adams State University Chamber Choir and the 68 West vocal jazz group will come together to perform a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in Richardson Hall Auditorium. 68 West will sing pieces by the Foundations, Sting, Pentatonix, and Stevie Wonder. The Chamber Choir program will include works dealing with love, loss, healing, and hope.
The final part of the program includes “America Will Be!” by Joel Thompson, with texts by Langston Hughes (“Let America Be America Again”), Emma Lazarus (words engraved in the base of the Statue of Liberty), and words from the diverse student body from Florida’s Freedom High School based on the prompts “I hope…/I dream/…/I sing…”
The concert will end with “Can We Sing the Darkness to Light?” and an arrangement of the spiritual “Soon We Will Be Done” that includes spoken words focused on solidarity against oppression and injustice. These pieces are particularly relevant given the atrocities currentlyoccurring in Ukraine.
Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for students and seniors, and free to AS&F and Friends of Music. For more information, please call 719-587-7621.
