Adams State plans MLK Day events
ADAMS State University students will commit to A Day of Service in Alamosa and around the San Luis Valley as part of the university’s reflections for Martin Luther King Day.
Martin Luther King Day is observed this year on Monday, Jan. 16. Adams State has a weeklong series of events tied to honoring the legacy of the slain 1960s civil rights leader, with this year’s activities centered on the theme “Choose Love Over Hate.”
The topic relates to Dr. Martin Luther King’s first collection of published sermons, “The Strength to Love.” According to King, love requires strength in the pursuit of justice and equity. He insisted that “darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
