AS Alamosa carries the charm of a tight-knit and quaint community, Porter Realty, Inc., a mainstay in Alamosa since 1991, views the city as more than just a market, but as a home of neighbors and members. Founded by Michael and Mary Ann Porter, the company has helped students attend Adams State for decades.

Adams State University recognizes Porter Realty, Inc., for its longstanding commitment to providing financial assistance with a 2022 Willis Fassett Jr. Award.

The award is named in honor of the late Willis Fassett Jr., a long-time president of the Adams State University Foundation Board of Directors. The annual award includes the Buffalo Chant bronze, which was created specifically for the Foundation by the late William Moyers, Class of 1939. The award will be presented to the Porters at the Annual Donor and Student Recognition Banquet on Nov. 1, 2022.

The Porters’ son, Preston, began working at Porter Realty in 2003 and took over the family business in 2012. In 2017, the Porters established the Adams State University Porter Realty, Inc., Scholarship Endowment to assist students reach their educational and career goals.

“It feels nice to have the company get recognition for being a good partner to Adams State for so many years,” said Preston Porter. “Adams State is a critical economic component for Alamosa and the San Luis Valley. From our standpoint, we are consistently seeing real estate activity driven by Adams State. Obviously, the university also has a much greater impact across all economic sectors.”

Preston Porter is a graduate of Alamosa High School and graduated with honors from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business and his Colorado Real Estate license. Preston and his wife, Katie, enjoy outdoor activities supporting the Adams State Grizzlies.

Mary Ann Porter graduated from Adams State in 1986, and Mike Porter attended Adams State before starting his real estate career and establishing Porter Realty.
