THE Alamosa School Board received a major makeover from Tuesday’s election, with four new school board members voted in.
The closest school board contest was Patrick Colvin’s narrow win over incumbent Amy Raya in the District 7 race. Justin Rilling defeated incumbent Star Quintana in the District 1 race, and Heidi Richardson defeated Brenda Almeida for the District 6 school board seat.
“Excited, definitely an honor to win any kind of an election,” said Rilling of his win over Quintana.
Two other school board seats went to Amanda Wilkinson, a new member who was unopposed in District 3, and current school board member Gloria Solis who was unopposed in District 4.
It was Rilling’s second run at a school board seat. The challenges brought on by the COVID pandemic have created challenges for school board members, and Rilling said he hopes the school board can “find a sense of normalcy anyway we can.”
He said helping students make up for lost time in the classroom due to COVID-19 is his focus coming onto the school board.
