The Alamosa School Board has two vacancies following the discovery that one board member was re-elected to a district board seat she didn’t actually reside in and another district board seat didn’t draw any candidates.

The school district is looking to fill vacancies for its District 6 and District 4 board seats. The District 6 board seat opened after it was determined this week that Heidi Richardson did not live within the boundaries of the district after she was re-elected on Nov. 4. Community members brought that fact to the attention of the school district on Tuesday, ahead of the school board meeting.

Richardson first won the District 6 board seat in 2021 and soon after the school district redrew boundaries that had the effect of pushing Richardson out of the neighborhood district. Richardson, who served as board president, stepped down and will be replaced by the school board.

Alamosa School District Assistant Superintendent Luis Murillo said Richardson’s re-election to a district board seat she no longer resided in due to the boundary redrawing was an “honest mistake.”

“She’s been a good board member, good board president, but we gotta follow the law,” Murillo said.

The school district will be accepting applications for residents to serve in District 6 and District 4. Gloria Solis, who has been representing District 4, did not run for re-election nor did anyone submit to be a candidate.

Michael Mumper was elected new board president and Andria Gay vice president during Tuesday’s school board meeting.
