RUNNERS, walkers, kids, and even dogs turned out for the inagural Alamosa Veterans Memorial Park 5k and 10k run on Saturday.

A color-guard and national anthem ceremony was held inside the armory before the race.

Saturday morning was a brisk one, but not cold enough to keep everyone from enjoying the sun and a run. The course led runners through Alamosa’s south side, starting at the National Guard Armory, looping around the cemetery, and ending back at the armory.

Volunteers turned out to help keep everyone on course, keep traffic slow, and to be voices of encouragement as runners neared the finish line. Applause, cold water, and apples awaited runners as they trickled in.

The Alamosa Veterans Memorial Park Project committee thanked everyone for their support and told the crowd that by springtime, concrete will be poured at the site of the memorial. The memorial will sit just off Highway 285, in front of the Alamosa county buildings.
