THE city of Alamosa will be starting a redistricting process that factors in the 2020 Census and the population distribution within each city council ward to make sure residents have fair representation.

Alamosa needs community volunteers to be on the redistricting committee that will review neighborhood populations and demographic information. The committee will make a recommendation to the city council on how the ward boundaries should be drawn.

“Redistricting is a process that decides where ward boundaries are drawn to make sure that populations are represented in a balanced way,” city communications specialist Jasmine Husmann wrote.

Alamosa residents can apply here to serve on the redistricting committee. The deadline to apply is Oct. 5. The city council will select three residents from each of Alamosa’s 4 wards to serve on the committee. The committee is expected to meet for approximately six months.
