Chilly breeze, a warm bonfire, and an afternoon cocktail make the Creede, Colorado Pond Hockey tournament one of the most loved winter events in town. Called “The Golden Pick,” it is sponsored by Tommyknocker and Kip’s Grill for Creede Athletics. The Pond Hockey tournament draws amateur teams from all over the United States. Some travel from as far as Dallas, Detroit, and Albuquerque. The tournament is held on the frozen Willow Creek drainage ponds, right underneath the famous Creede cliffs. From the stands, observers can enjoy the unique rock formations while watching local Creede folk battle out-of-town teams for the puck, as well as yearly bragging rights.
