SUMMARY:Temple Grandin presentation to benefit 4-H
DESCRIPTION:Temple Grandin to speak at Society Hall to Benefit 4-H in the San Luis Valley Temple Grandin\, renowned bestselling author\, speaker\, and CSU professor of animal behavior science will be speaking to the public February 6\, 2024 at Society Hall in Alamosa. Brought to you by your local SLV Area CSU Extension team\, Temple will be speaking on “Visual Thinking: The hidden gifts of people who think in pictures\, patterns\, and abstractions” which is also the title of her recent book. \nHer book\, Calling All Minds\, was a New York Times best seller for middle school students. \nHer life story has also been made into an HBO movie titled–Temple Grandin\, starring Claire Danes\, which won seven Emmy awards and a Golden Globe. The movie shows her life as a teenager and how she started her career. In 2017\, she was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame and in 2018 made a fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. \nShe was named as one of the top 10 Best College Professors in 2020 by CEO Magazine. In 2022 she was awarded the University Distinguished Professor degree at Colorado State University. Her latest book\, – “Visual Thinking” – was also on the New York Times best seller list. \nDr. Grandin is generously making this presentation in support of the San Luis Valley Extension Program. SLV Extension believes in the power of lifelong learning\, and everything they do is designed to foster healthy youth and families\, prosperous farms\, ranches and businesses\, and strong\, resilient\, proud communities. \nOur Valley 4-H Youth Extension program has historically been led by two\, full-time youth development specialists\, but it has been over 12 years since able to be fully staffed. The Outcalt Foundation recently gifted Extension the funding for the initial three years to hire a second 4-H specialist. Now we are launching an endowment campaign to fund this new position permanently. \nTickets are $20.00 and revenue from ticket sales will support this 4-H position endowment. Any additional donations to this cause will be gratefully accepted. The presentation begins at 7pm\, with doors opening at 6pm. We expect this event to sell out\, so we encourage you to get your tickets early. The event will also be live streamed on the Society Hall Facebook page and Youtube. \nTickets may be purchased at the Green Spot Garden Center in Alamosa or give me a call at 719-580-7838. In a couple of days tickets will also be available on the Society Hall
