First Fridays with Visit Alamosa ramps up for summer
ALAMOSA
FIRST Fridays with Visit Alamosa offers art, entertainment, special deals, and games on the First Friday of every month. May 6 will highlight 13 downtown merchants, plus the First Friday’s Market on Main where visitors will find artisan jewelry, handmade cosmetics, gourmet baked goods, and activities.
First Fridays with Visit Alamosa launched on March 4, 2022. The event series was created to showcase Alamosa to travelers, increase visitor spending, and to celebrate the small businesses, and the movers and shakers that make Alamosa a vibrant place to live and to visit. Main Street merchants are vital to the continued success of a thriving community and Visit Alamosa is proud to showcase these businesses through the First Fridays event series.
“First Fridays are a time for our community to come together, get out and have fun,” says Carol Demlo, owner of Treasure Alley. Many downtown businesses are already seeing the economic impact of First Fridays with Visit Alamosa, as this new event series continues to grow.
“First Fridays are putting prospective customers in our store. No question about it,” said Matt Abbey, managing partner with Altitude Appliances on Main Street. The store will launch its Big Green Egg line of smokers and barbecues at the First Friday event on May 6, Abbey said.
First Fridays with Visit Alamosa is part of Visit Alamosa’s Destination Development efforts.
“The First Fridays event has sparked energy in our downtown that we’re excited to see grow into the summer season. This program aligns with our Destination Development goals of extending traveler spending in our destination and giving visitors a reason to stay longer,” said Kale Mortensen, executive director of Visit Alamosa.
A key feature of First Fridays with Visit Alamosa is the First Friday’s Market on Main. The market is open to makers, artists, artisans, performers, and entertainers. Businesses or community organizations are also welcome to join the First Friday’s Market on Main with activities for the public to enjoy.
“First Fridays strives to bring people downtown to enjoy quality entertainment, art, shopping and dining. Our goals at the San Luis Valley Brewing Company align perfectly with what First Fridays is doing, and we are a proud partner in their efforts,” said Scott Graber, owner of San Luis Valley Brewing Company & The ROAST.
Main Street merchants participating in First Fridays on May 6 are: Your Boutique Kloset, Big Valley HobbyTown, Square Peg Brewerks, Treasure Alley, San Luis Valley Brewing Company, No Limit Arcade, Narrow Gauge Book Coop, Happy Mountain, Dress Code By Evans, Altitude Appliances, The Shop Tattoo & Comics, Woody’s Q Shack, and St. Ives Pub & Eatery.
