THE music of Don Richmond comes on. Cue Marty Jones.
“Hello everyone, this is Marty Jones and this is The Outdoor Citizen podcast.”
So it began this week – the launch of a new podcast developed in collaboration with SLV GO! and Jones, the bicycle-riding, retired chemistry professor from Adams State.
“I love Marty Jones,” was a common reaction whenever a mention of The Outdoor Citizen podcast was made to a potential listener.
Indeed, bringing Jones on board to host The Outdoor Citizen was a no-brainer. Then he made a recommendation that validated why he was the perfect choice to host: let’s add in music from Richmond, the Valley’s poet laureate and longtime singer-songwriter, to open and close each episode.
Richmond was fine with it, too.
Creating the podcast in partnership with SLV GO! and its hard-working staff was another no-brainer. SLV GO! is behind the buildout of trails across the Valley, from San Luis to Del Norte, making connections to the Rio Grande and the natural environment like never before.
SLV GO! Executive Director Mick Daniel was a guest on the first episode recorded Tuesday and during it he read out the names of winners from SLV GO!’s recent survey on how to grow its work.
The Outdoor Citizen podcast is a natural offshoot of The Citizen’s efforts to focus on the natural assets of the San Luis Valley since its own launch in mid-August of 2021. Episodes will roll out every two weeks and it’ll stream on AlamosaCitizen.com or wherever you get your podcasts.
Take a listen. Here’s Episode 1.
