KEVIN Jones was heading out to the Rural Superintendent Academy in preparation for the 2022-23 school year as new superintendent for Sierra Grande School District.
Jones was principal at Center High School before he made the move to Sierra Grande. Nicole Neufeld is now the Center High Principal. She previously worked for the Early Childhood Council of the San Luis Valley.

“My goal is to learn as much as I can about the Sierra Grande way,” Jones said this week. Of his new role as superintendent, he said, “It really is a different title and a different job.”
Jones replaces Darren Edgar at Sierra Grande. Edgar is now superintendent of the North Conejos School District, where he replaced retired superintendent Curt Wilson.
Both Jones and Edgar have new school buildings to open in the upcoming school year. The new Centauri High School off Highway 285 and the new Sierra Grande Schools off Highway 160 will welcome students for a full year come August when the academic year begins.
