Monte Vista implements water restrictions
THE city of Monte Vista has implemented water restrictions for all residential and commercial customers. Restrictions are in effect from June through Oct. 16 and limit household and commercial property owners to watering every other day.
The goal, city officials said, is to reduce total water pumping demands by 10 percent.
Here’s a rundown of the restrictions:
Residences with even-number street addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8, can water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Residences with odd-number street addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, can water on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Watering is limited to midnight to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight. Sunday will be considered a watering day for all residences during the limited hours mentioned above.
- Outdoor landscape watering is allowed by a hand-held hose with attached positive shutoff nozzle, drip irrigation system or bucket on any day or at any time for trees, shrubs, planting beds, planters and gardens.
- Newly seeded or sodded lawns are exempt from restrictions for the period needed to establish the lawn, not to exceed 30 days. “Newly seeded or sodded” is an area that visibly lacks vegetation. Watering is restricted to the newly seeded or sodded portions without extending unnecessarily to areas with established vegetation. These areas are not exempted from the hours when watering is permitted. Anyone planting new seeded or sodded lawns must fill out an application at the City of Monte Vista Public Works Department to be allowed 30 days of watering during the restricted hours. Following this period all lawns will be considered established and must follow watering restrictions as outlined above.
- Hydrant use will be limited to essential purposes, including but not limited to dust mitigation and selling water to construction sites within the city limits where water service is unavailable.
