Pirates stay unbeaten, take on Centauri Friday night

MONTE Vista continued to roll with a 62-19 win over Center to remain undefeated on the season. The Pirates take on rival Centauri in a 6 p.m. game Friday night. Here’s a complete wrapup of games from Oct. 21-22.

Alamosa (5-3)

The Mean Moose lost their winning streak on Friday, 42-20 against Florence. Senior quarterback Kasey Jones struggled, only completing 45 percent of his passes. However, after throwing for 216 yards, Jones was able to move into 12th place in Colorado with 1746 yards. 

Next Game: Oct. 28, Woodland Park (6-2), 7 p.m.

Centauri (6-2)

The Falcons have now won five straight games, beating Ignacio 41-8. Centauri now improves to 4-0 in league play. 

Next Game: Oct. 28, Monte Vista (8-0), 6 p.m.

Center (3-5)

The Vikings dropped their fifth game of the season on Friday falling to Monte Vista 62-19. Center had a hard time stopping the Pirate’s pass rush, allowing six sacks in the game. 

Next Game: Oct. 28, Trinidad (0-8), 7 p.m.

Del Norte (3-5)

The Tigers won their game against Trinidad 40-14. Senior Micheal Laymon had a strong game for Del Norte, finishing with 180 total yards. 

Next Game: Oct. 28, Ignacio (4-3), 7 p.m.

Monte Vista (8-0)

The Pirates kept their undefeated season alive this week, handling Center 62-19. Monte Vista had another strong game on the ground, collecting 279 yards and five touchdowns. Senior Khegan Gunter was also able to move into 13th in Colorado in total points with 148. 

Next Game: Oct. 28, Centauri (6-2), 6 p.m.

Mountain Valley (3-6)

Mountain Valley was able to bounce back from their loss last week, handling Primero 78-25. Junior quarterback Riley Heater collected five touchdowns in the game, four of them passing. 

Next Game: Oct. 29, North Park (6-2),2 p.m.

Sanford (5-3)

The Mustangs lost a heartbreaker to Mancos this weekend, 22-20. Sanford had a hard time containing senior quarterback and linebacker Ayden Mathews, who had two touchdowns to go along with 14 tackles. 

Next Game: Oct. 28, Dolores (0-6), 6 p.m.

Sangre de Cristo (1-7)

The Thunderbirds were finally able to get their first win in two years, beating Manzanola 65-25. After their win, no valley team will go winless this season.

Next Game: Oct. 29, Miami-Yoder (2-6), 2 p.m.

Sargent (3-5)

The Farmers lost on Friday, 56-0 against Hayden. After their loss on Friday, Sargent has been shutout in their past two games by a combined score of 108-0. 

Next Game: Oct. 28, Dove Creek (8-0), 6 p.m.

Sierra Grande (7-2)

The Panthers beat Cotopaxi on Friday in a 62-49 thriller. Sierra Grande was able to survive the Pirates even with the big game from senior quarterback Ty Coleman. The game also propelled senior running back Angelo Lucero to number 16 in Colorado in total points with 132.
