THE Rio Grande National Forest announced adjustments in Visitor Information Services and forest product availability in its offices.
A new Visitor Information Specialist (VIS) has started at the Divide Ranger Station in Del Norte. The new VIS will bolster the agency’s capacity to serve the public in forest product sales, provide information on the Forest and create flexibility to conduct community outreach activities. Additionally, the Rio Grande National Forest is working closely with its partners at San Juan Mountains Association to hire another VIS to staff the Creede office as the busy summer season arrives.
The Forest headquarters in Monte Vista will no longer provide information services or sell forest products, including fuelwood permits, transplants, maps and annual passes. This action is occurring just prior to the office moving to the new headquarters in Del Norte later this year.
The offices in La Jara and Saguache are both operating normally, with all services available. Each office will occasionally be closed to allow the VIS to conduct community outreach activities or other critical work.
The Forest offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visitors are advised to call ahead:
