THE Sargent High School Girls Swim team is going to state Feb. 9-11. 

Sargent fields a swim team that is open to students from other Valley high schools. This year girls from Sargent, Alamosa and Center will all compete for Sargent in the 3A Colorado High School Activities Association Swim & Dive Competition

Danielle Aquino and KayLee Gonzales Moore from Alamosa High School, Emma Swell from Sargent High School and Willa Seez Sanchez from Center High School will all compete. These four girls have qualified for a total of 15 races between them, including three relays – 200 freestyle, 200 medley, and the 400 free relay. The Sargent team is ranked 16th in both the 200 medley relay and for the 200 free relay.

Danielle Aquino also qualified in two individual events – the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle; KayLee Gonzales Moore qualified in four individual events, the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke; Emma Swell qualified in five individual events; and Willa Seez Sanchez qualified for the 100 breaststroke.

The state swim and dive competition will be hosted at YMCA in Thornton. The competition begins Thursday, with the Class 3A preliminary races on Friday and the final races held on Saturday. The Sargent relay teams will push to be in the final races on Saturday.

The team will leave Sargent on Thursday, Feb.9. The four girls will be accompanied by their coaches, Anna Gearhart and Elieen Kim, and two alternate swimmers.
