Second Annual Valley Bottom Rio Trio set for June 11
FOR the second year, Alamosa Parks and Recreation and SLVGO are holding the Valley Bottom Rio Trio triathlon. The race includes an 8-mile trail bike ride, a 3-mile river paddle, and a 5k run. The events can be done solo or as part of a 3-person relay race. Registration for the event opened on April 1.
Last year’s inaugural event saw Isaac Manobla take 1st place in the solo male category and Dani Robben place 1st in the solo female category. Chris Pitcher, Nicole Pitcher, and Amanda Sanders took home the gold in the 3 Person Coed, and the Shuldberg family won the Family category. The competition was tough last year and this year should be just as fierce. The event is open to everyone, but some of the Valley’s top athletes are sure to flock to the banks of the Rio to prove their mettle.
The initiative to hold the Rio Races in the summer and the winter is to get people outside and get the community to come together and drip some sweat. After the race is said and done, local beer and food will be onsite to restore all those burned calories.
