SLV GO! Dark Sky Photo Contest extends deadline
NOW through May 22, SLV GO! is hosting a Dark Sky Photo Contest. They’re turning Dark Sky Week into Dark Sky Month. The contest is a celebration of the wonders of the night sky and the plan to designate the Sangre De Cristo Dark Sky Reserve over the San Luis Valley.
“The Sangre de Cristo Dark Sky reserve is a region-wide initiative involving public land agencies, municipalities, county representatives, and local organizations and communities to protect and preserve our dark sky resource through responsible outdoor lighting policies and public education,” said Dani Robben of SLV GO.
“SLV GO! Is spearheading this dark sky initiative and will be applying to the International Dark Sky Association for International Dark Sky Reserve certification. SLV GO! and partners must substantiate the quality of our region’s dark skies, and part of that is through imagery! Help protect our dark skies by capturing a photo of the starry, night sky!”
The photo contest has three prizes. First place will receive a two-night stay at Rancho Bendito outside Westcliffe, Colorado that comes with an astrophotography experience at a private observatory. Second and third places will receive Kristi Mountain Sports gift cards and SLV GO! shirts and hats.
