SLVGives seeks to increase donations on Colorado Gives Day
COLORADO Gives Day is Tuesday, Dec. 6, and for 24 hours, Coloradans will come together to give and support Colorado nonprofits. SLVGives, the local arm of Colorado Gives Day, seeks to increase the amount of donations for San Luis Valley nonprofit organizations.
Nearly $300,000 was raised last year for San Luis Valley nonprofits, according to Mike Roque, executive director of the Community Foundation of the San Luis Valley.
“The generosity of donors who care about protecting the Valley and caring for its residents is clear. And we’re asking them to step up again this year when the money is needed more than ever,” Roque said.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley, the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area, San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition, San Luis Valley Great Outdoors and other community-based nonprofits in towns across the Valley are all working to promote the upcoming Colorado Gives Day.
The Community Foundation of the San Luis Valley is partnering with First Southwest Bank to support more than 40 organizations who serve all six counties of the Valley.
“Every donation helps, and we encourage everyone to Give Where You Live!” said Roque.
One nonprofit participating in San Luis Valley Gives Day is San Luis Valley Immigrant Resource Center. For more than 20 years, it has been connecting and empowering immigrants with resources to achieve legal documentation, fulfill economic needs, and integrate into the community. With a staff of just three women, the center works with about 2,000 immigrants to provide legal assistance, domestic violence assistance, counseling, and education outreach. “I do not have anything to pay for all your help, but thanks to God and you I have made my dream come true, to remain legally in this beautiful country,” one client wrote in a thank-you letter.
