INTRIGUE from the district attorney, a new subdivision in unincorporated Alamosa County, and the Rio Frio finds its 5K ice at Blanca Vista Park. But first a note on Hertz Rental.

Hertz Rental to lose lease at airport

Alamosa County has issued a notice of termination to Hertz Rental for its lack of operation and availability of cars at Alamosa Regional Airport. The lack of available rentals has long been a sore spot for the airport and one that has cost it business with the flying public.

Frustrated with Hertz, the county is moving to terminate its lease agreement for Hertz’s “inability to provide vehicles,” County Attorney Jason Kelly said Wednesday. The county instead will work to find another rental car company option for the airport through a Request for Proposals.

New county subdivision approved

Alamosa County commissioners gave final approval Wednesday to a new housing subdivision on the northwest end of the county past Comfort Inn. JB Johnson Properties LLC is subdividing 37 acres into 7 tracts ranging from 2 acres to 13.5 acres. The development is expected to include seven to 10 dwellings. Alamosa County land use codes require a minimum of a 1 acre lot to build a home.

DA meets with commissioners
on “funding matter”

District Attorney Alonzo Payne and Assistant DA Megan Martinez spent 45 minutes in executive session with Alamosa County commissioners on Wednesday to discuss a “funding matter.”

“It is an open matter in front of the district court. That is all I can tell you,” Payne told AlamosaCitizen.com following the closed-door meeting. “But it is not an elected official, I can absolutely say that. It is something that is currently open in the district courts of our jurisdiction. It’s a funding matter beyond general (fund) dollars.”

Payne said he will hold the same type of executive session briefing with every county commission in the San Luis Valley. Alamosa County was his first stop. Any funding provided to the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office by county governments in the San Luis Valley would be made in an public session.

Rio Frio 5K finds ice
at Blanca Vista Park

Is the Rio Grande frozen enough for Saturday’s Rio Frio 5K? Event organizer John Reesor answered that question Wednesday when he announced the annual race will find its ice at Blanca Vista Park.

The race will still start at Cole Park, run on ice at Blanca Vista Park, and runners will finish the race at Cole Park.
