Monte Vista remains unbeaten
in high school football
THE Pirates got a huge win Friday night in Peyton, 50-22, to keep their undefeated season alive. Monte Vista continued to lean on their run game gaining 340 yards. Overall, Valley teams finished the weekend with a combined record of 4-2. Here’s a recap of the games and a look at this weekend’s matchups:
Alamosa (2-2)
The Mean Moose were on a bye and will look to play La Junta at home Friday.
Next Game: Sept. 30, La Junta, 7 p.m.
Centauri (2-2)
The Falcons got a big win Friday, beating Bayfield 33-14. The Falcon defense was very efficient, forcing the Wolverines into four turnovers. Of particular note was the Falcons pass defense, coming away with three interceptions.
Next Game: Sept. 30, at Center, 7 p.m.
Center (2-2)
The Vikings were on a bye this week and are back Friday to face Centauri at home.
Next Game: Sept. 30, Centauri, 7 p.m.
Del Norte (2-2)
The Tigers have now lost consecutive games as they fell to Salida, 54-13. The Tigers struggled to stop the run against Salida, allowing 116 yards and five touchdowns. The Tigers will look to bounce back Thursday as they take on the Monte Vista Pirates at home.

Monte Vista (4-0)
The Pirates stayed undefeated, beating Peyton 50-22. Senior running back Deangelo Archuleta finished the game with 191 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Senior running back Khegan Gunter also had a pair of touchdowns on 70 yards rushing. The Pirates will put their undefeated record to the test Thursday when they go to Del Norte to take on the Tigers.

Mountain Valley (0-5)
The Wolves lost again on Friday, falling to Sierra Grande 57-0. Junior quarterback Riley Heater struggled, finishing the game with two interceptions and just 39 yards. Mountain Valley will have their bye this week to try and make adjustments before they host Miami-Yoder.
Next Game: Oct. 1, Miami-Yoder, 1 p.m.
Sanford (4-1)
The Mustangs beat the Wiley Panthers Friday, 56-6. Sanford continues their strong season with back-to-back wins after their lone loss to Simla two weeks ago. Up next is a big matchup as the Mustangs travel to Dove Creek to take on the 5-0 Bulldogs.

Sangre de Cristo (0-4)
The Thunderbirds were on a bye this week and will be back in action Friday when they travel to Sierra Grande to take on the Panthers.

Sargent (2-2)
The Farmers face Mancos on the road Friday after a bye week.
Next Game: Sept. 30, at Mancos, 6 p.m.
Sierra Grande (3-2)
The Panthers are coming off back to back shutouts as they beat Mountain Valley 57-0. Senior running back Angelo Lucero continues his strong season, racking up 115 touchdowns and five touchdowns. Junior Tyler Kester also had a big game, coming away with an interception and a blocked punt.
