Alamosa beats La Junta in tribute game to former coach Manny Wasinger

The Mean Moose beat the Tigers 28-20 Friday on a night when Alamosa High and its fans welcomed back Manny Wasinger to recognize his 190 wins as Maroons head coach.
“My most significant chapter of my football life was here at Alamosa winning two state championships,” said Wasinger during his halftime speech.
Overall, Valley teams went 4-4 this weekend, after the Monte Vista and Del Norte game was canceled. Here’s a game-by-game replay and the schedule ahead.
Alamosa (3-2)
The Moose moved to 1-0 in league play as they beat La Junta 28-20. Senior quarterback Kasey Jones racked up 226 yards and three touchdowns.
Next Game: Oct. 7, at Lamar, 7 p.m.
Centauri (3-2)
The Falcons were also able to move to 1-0 in league play, beating Center 54-0. The Falcons had success in all aspects of the game and will look to build on their momentum.

Center (2-3)
The Vikings lost their first league game, falling 54-0 to Centauri. Center will look to bounce back from back-to-back losses.

Del Norte (2-2)
The Tigers game against the Pirates was postponed to Monday. The Tigers will also take on Centauri this Friday.

Monte Vista (4-0)
After Del Norte, the Pirates will take on Trinidad on Friday.
Next Game: Oct. 7, Trinidad, 7 p.m.
Mountain Valley (1-5)
The Wolves won their first game of the season, defeating Miami-Yoder 57-0. Mountain Valley getting their first win means that the only winless team left in the Valley is Sangre de Cristo.
Next Game: Oct. 6, at Sangre de Cristo, 6 p.m.
Sanford (4-2)
The Mustangs lost their first league game, falling to Dove Creek 50-8. The Bulldogs had a great game on the ground, gaining 292 yards and three touchdowns. Dove Creek junior Taber Dejane also had two interceptions. Sanford will get their bye this week.
Next Game: Oct. 14, Sargent, 7 p.m.
Sangre de Cristo (0-5)
The Thunderbirds dropped their fifth straight game, falling 67-0 to Sierra Grande. This also drops Sangre to 0-4 in league play this year.
Next Game: Oct. 6, Mountain Valley, 6 p.m.
Sargent (2-3)
The Farmers lost their league game against Mancos, 60-6. The Bluejays jumped out to a 46-point lead at the half and held it for the rest of the game. Kail Wayman of Mancos led the way by scoring four touchdowns.
Next Game: Oct. 7, Dolores, 6 p.m.
Sierra Grande (4-2)
The Panthers beat Sangre on Friday to extend their winning streak to three games. The Panthers have now orchestrated three consecutive shutouts, and look to keep up their strong defense on Thursday.
