Alamosa Senior Citizens Center 50th Anniversary Open House
The Alamosa Senior Citizens Center is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with an Open House from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Stop to say hello and enjoy a chat and refreshments. The Alamosa Senior Citizens Center is located at 92 Colorado Avenue.
Plus bonus items for November and December calendars to help plan ahead
One of the lighter weekends for events across the San Luis Valley as momentum toward the holiday season builds. Friday evening’s event at the Colorado Farm Brewery, and then high school playoff games on Saturday in the Valley dominate the weekend. Take a look ahead at some of the upcoming holiday celebrations later in November and into December.
Friday, Nov. 12
Adams100 Scholarship Social
The Colorado Farm Brewery is hosting the Adams State Alumni Association and anyone who wants to taste the new Adams100 beer. The commemorative beer was created by the Colorado Farm Brewery in celebration of Adams State’s 100th birthday.
The party starts at 5 p.m. until close. Cost is $25 and includes food and one Adams100 beer (or soda). There also will be live entertainment and prizes. Sounds like a great evening.

Saturday, Nov. 13
Monte Vista Fire Department Chili Supper
The 30th annual Chili Supper sponsored by the Monte Vista Fire Department is Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monte Vista has a volunteer fire department and proceeds benefit it. The chili supper is at the firehouse, 401 S. Broadway St., Monte Vista.
Colorado High School State Playoff Football Games
Centauri, Sierra Grande and Sanford all play in quarterfinal round state playoff games. Here’s the schedule:
Class 1A Quarterfinals
Centauri, 10-0, is on the road to play Yuma, 6-4. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
6-Man Quarterfinals
Sierra Grande, 9-0, faces Granada, 8-1, in 6-man football. The game will be played at Sangre de Cristo High beginning at 1 p.m.
8-Man Quarterfinals
ClassSanford, 6-4, plays unbeaten Vail Christian, 10-0, in 8-man football. The game will be at Sanford High beginning at 1 p.m.
November look ahead:
Waverly Road Concert Del Norte
Wildwood Sounds in Del Norte is staging Waverly Road Concert on Friday, Nov. 19. The sounds is a mix of roots music, funk, blues, R&B and rock. Tickets are $20 at the door. Call 719-657-4757 to reserve tickets.
Creede Chocolate Festival
The Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving is the annual Creede Chocolate Festival. It happens over two days, Nov. 26 and Nov. 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event showcases samples of chocolate specialties created by local business owners and individuals. Eating your way around Creede will be easy – but casting your vote for the People’s Choice Award can be challenging!
December look ahead:
Holiday Bazaar Sacred Heart Church
Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa will have its Holiday Bazaar over two days in early December. On Friday, Dec. 3, the bazaar is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturday, Dec. 4., the hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. You’ll find arts and crafts, a bake sale, and a white elephant sale.
Celebration of Lights
The city of Alamosa set Friday, Dec. 3, for its annual Celebration of Lights. Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. at Alamosa City Hall with the Adams State Brass Quartet and Clarinet Duo. At 6:30 p.m. will be the Illumination of City Hall followed by a Walk to Santa. Always good to plan ahead.
Monte Vista’s Christmas Celebration
Monte Vista will have its annual tree lighting and caroling at Fullwinder Park on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 5:15 p.m. Then at 6 p.m. it’s the Monte Vista Holiday Parade down Adams Street.
