Jeff Hurd was leading Adam Frisch in the 3rd Congressional District race following Tuesday’s vote. Hurd, a Republican from Grand Junction, was holding onto 49.9 percent of the vote over Frisch, who was making his second run at the congressional seat.
“We’ve known all along that, just like last time, this race was going to be razor-thin. With weather conditions deteriorating on the Western Slope and election workers heading home for the night, the race currently remains too close to call,” Frisch said in a statement Tuesday night.
Hurd survived a multi-candidate Republican primary to face off against Frisch.
Both candidates made frequent visits to the San Luis Valley during the campaign and delivered messages focused on the Rio Grande Basin.
“In Congress I will work closely with local farmers, ranchers, communities, and water managers on solutions for managing the water resources that are vital for the San Luis Valley’s agricultural economy, its recreational industry, and its ecosystem,” Hurd said during the campaign in response to questions from Alamosa Citizen.
“I will support Infrastructure improvements. Investing in modern water infrastructure is key to long-term sustainability. I will work to bring federal investment to improve irrigation systems, water storage, and delivery infrastructure,” he said.
