Alamosa County will lower its overall spending in 2026 under a budget adopted by county commissioners on Wednesday. The budget includes a 2 percent cost-of-living increase for public employees of the county.
The overall spending is set at $54 million, including a $14.6 million general fund. The overall budget is $2.5 million lower and general fund spending down $772,000 from 2025 levels.

Alamosa’s county government and city government both now have adopted budgets for the coming year. In October, the city of Alamosa adopted a $47.2 million 2026 budget, which includes a $22.8 million general fund. The city budget does not include a cost-of-living adjustment, but city employees can earn up to a 4 percent pay-for-performance hike in their salary.
Property tax revenue for Alamosa County is projected at $4.9 million, up $528,000. The county is anticipating collecting $3.7 million in sales and use taxes. A separate penny sales tax is collected for the Alamosa County Justice Center and is expected to generate $4.6 million in revenue.
Separately at Wednesday’s meeting, Alamosa County Surveyor Dan Russell notified the commissioners that he is resigning his position. The surveyor is an elected position. Russell was last elected in 2022. His resignation will create a vacancy that the county commissioners will fill through appointment until the next election in November 2026.
