San Luis Valley students who participate in the annual history fair at Adams State are eligible for scholarships from the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area.
The history fair features projects that relate to themes based on local history, traditions and culture. Students create documentaries, oral histories, papers and presentations based on a theme relating to the history of the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area, which encompasses Alamosa, Conejos and Costilla counties.
Previous winners have selected topics such as: Fort Garland, Jack Dempsey, local religion, the local Chicano movement, SPMDTU and agriculture.
SdCNHA will award scholarships for students whose projects include history from the heritagearea. For more information about local history, visit sangreheritage.org or contact the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area office at 719-580-9057.
