Adams State has secured federal money for its campus Incident Management Communications System, the university announced.
U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper directed $523,000 to support the emergency communications system.
Adams State will use the funds to purchase a two-way radio emergency communications system. The upgrade will provide the infrastructure and training support for instant communications across the campus-designated Incident Management safety team, Adams State Police Department, campus facilities and housing staff, the university said.
“This funding will improve campus safety and emergency readiness for students as well as the greater Alamosa community,” Bennet said.
Kevin Daniel, Adams State chief information officer, said the communications system will help Adams State improve its emergency preparedness and response ability.
“Adams State is extremely grateful for the support from our congressional representatives who supported our request,” Daniel said. “This project will greatly increase the safety and security of our campus by improving our emergency preparedness and response capabilities as well as our overall campus communications infrastructure.”
