Beginning with sporting events in January, Adams State athletics will require fans to go through mandatory security checkpoints and only allow clear bags inside athletic venues, according to a new safety policy announced this week.
Athletic Director Katelyn Smith says the new security protocols align with what other schools are doing.
Fans will be allowed to carry into events clear bags that are no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches. Small personal items, such as wallets, clutches and medically necessary items will be allowed but are subject to inspection, the university says.
Backpacks, purses and other non-clear bags will not be permitted.
โWe take the safety of our fans seriously,โ Smith says. โI feel like we should have been doing this all along.โ
Adams State says all spectators will be required to pass through security screening prior to entry. The security screening was part of the protocol at last seasonโs Adams State football games at Rex Field.
