Alamosa High captured the Class 3A Colorado Knowledge Bowl title during state competition held March 16-17 at Aims Community College in Greeley.
The Moose team outscored The Classical Academy and North Fork in the championship round. Sargent High finished third in the Class 1A state competition.
Alamosa High’s team includes Gibson Gillespie, Jonah Pittman, Olivia Formisano, Madelyn Garberick, Wesley Nielsen, Simon Pittman, Isabel Melendrez de Jaramillo, Isabella Lopez, Ryan Shuldberg and Alan “Gio” Valenzuela. Coaches are Erika Henderson, Matt Relyea and Jason Duncan.
It was the Moose’s fifth crack at the state title after finishing third place in 2025, runnerup in 2024 and 2023, and third place in 2022.
Stargate High had won the past four Class 3A Knowledge Bowl titles before Alamosa High unseated Stargate this year to capture its first state Knowledge Bowl title.
“The 3A classification has been tightly contested for the last few years, we’ve definitely had the toughest competition,” said Duncan. “I’m super proud of our team this year, two days of competition is very taxing mentally, but they powered through and ended up champions.”
Alamosa High’s Knowledge Bowl teams have also competed and won in past years the Rocky Mountain Quiz Kids competition put on Fox21 in Colorado Springs.
In April, Alamosa High’s 2026 state champion Knowledge Bowl team will head to the National Small School NAQT championship in Chicago.
