The Alamosa School District filled its two vacancies on the school board with the appointments of Cristalray Dominguez and Chris Ivers.
Dominguez will fill a vacancy for the District 4 board seat and Ivers will represent the District 6 neighborhood on the Alamosa School Board. Both appointments were approved at Tuesday’s school board meeting.
“We are excited to welcome our new board members to the ASD family. The interview process highlighted the high caliber of leadership we have right here in Alamosa, and I want to thank all the candidates who applied. Our administration is ready to collaborate with the full board to continue leading our district with bold vision and heart,” said Superintendent Diana Jones
The District 4 board seat, which covers south Alamosa, was vacant because there were no declared candidates for the seat during the last school board election.
The District 6 seat opened up when it was determined the new school district boundaries pushed Heidi Richardson out of the district she was representing. District 6 covers the eastern part of Alamosa.
Dominguez and her husband, Jamie, operate Shooting Stars Cultural and Leadership Center; she has worked with the Alamosa School District to host its Family Center in south Alamosa.
Ivers works for the Rio Grande Water Conservation District as the program manager for Subdistricts 4 and 5.
“We are eager to begin working with the newly appointed members to continue our progress on our community co-created strategic plan and to ensure every student in Alamosa has the resources they need to thrive,” said Assistant School Superintendent Luis Murillo.
