Aaron Miltenberger, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of the San Luis Valley, was honored by the national organization during this summer’s Boys & Girls Clubs of America 2024 Southwest Leadership Conference in Oklahoma City.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America presented Miltenberger with its Jim Wetherington Southwesterner Award for the growth and transformation of BGCSLV into four locations, with expanded staff, programming, and community partnerships.

Miltenberger recently oversaw the ribbon cutting for a new early childhood learning center to be constructed at the BGCSLV main site off 10th Street and Highway 285 in Alamosa.

He’s also been recognized recently by Adams State School of Education with its Educator Highlight Award for his “learning is something that never stops” attitude.

The Jim Wetherington Southwesterner Award was created in 1970 to honor Jim Wetherington, a public servant and longtime advocate of youth. Every year since its inception, the award has been given to club staff who serve club and community members by following specific award criteria, including being exemplary of the highest caliber of Boys & Girls Clubs professionals in thought, word, and deed.

BGCSLV serves Valley youth ages 6-18, primarily in the Alamosa, Antonito, Blanca, Fort Garland, and Saguache communities. Programming is year-round, taking place during after-school hours throughout the academic year, with full-day programming during summer breaks. Additional information can be found on the club’s website at www.bgcslv.org.
