Andy Lavier, the longtime principal at Alamosa High School, has accepted a position as assistant superintendent for the Center School District. The Center School Board approved the hire at its meeting this week.
Lavier has been a teacher and administrator with Alamosa High School since 1997. In 2014 he was elevated to school principal, was a guiding force behind the successful push to build a new high school stadium, and has Alamosa High meeting the state’s academic performance measures as he steps away after a decade as principal.
In Center he returns to work with Superintendent Carrie Zimmerman, who left Alamosa Schools to become superintendent in Center.
“Andy Lavier will be missed at AHS. In his 10-year tenure, Andy quickly transformed AHS to be a performing school and kept it there. Andy has been integral in every aspect of AHS’s success,” said Alamosa School District Superintendent Luis Murillo. “He is a man of integrity with an exceptional work ethic. We are thankful for everything he did for AHS and the community of Alamosa in his time here. We wish Andy the best in his future endeavors in leadership.”
Murillo said Alamosa Schools will compose a committee representative of different groups to hire a new principal for Alamosa High. The position will be posted once the resignation is official through the Alamosa School Board accepting the resignation at its meeting on June 20.
