Conejos County Clerk and Recorder Nathan Ruybal has announced his candidacy for re-election.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Conejos County,” Ruybal said in his announcement. “The clerk’s office is often the first stop residents go when they buy a piece of property, buy a new vehicle or register to vote. My goal has always been to make those interactions as seamless, secure and professional as possible. We have made great strides, but there is still work to be done.”
Ruybal was first appointed as Conejos County clerk in 2018 after long-time clerk Lawrence Gallegos retired.
During his latest term, Ruybal said he has focused on several key initiatives such as election integrity, grant funding, digital preservation and enhancing security protocols for future elections.
The county clerk and recorder office is the among the county government offices that voters will decide in the 2026 election cycle. County treasurer, county assessor, county sheriff, county commissioners are all offices that will be determined in November.
A resident of Conejos County and a seventh-generation rancher, Ruybal said, “My door is always open. I am running to ensure that Conejos County continues to have a clerk’s office that is efficient, non-partisan, and dedicated to the highest standards of public service.”
