A longtime food service employee for the Alamosa School District was fired Wednesday for submitting falsified and forged time sheets amounting to an estimated $20,000.

Following the firing, the case has been referred to local law enforcement.

“Following an investigation, we promptly terminated the employee and reported the matter to law enforcement. We are reviewing our policies, procedures, and systems to evaluate and implement changes that would prevent a recurrence of this in the future,” said Assistant Superintendent Luis Murillo.

The school district did not identify the employee but said the theft occurred over an 11-month period.

“We are sharing this with our community in furtherance of our commitment to financial transparency and our desire to remain accountable for good stewardship of District funds,” Murillo said.
