Christina “Tina” Espinoza, deputy county clerk, has announced her candidacy for Alamosa County clerk and recorder.
“From ensuring election integrity to streamlining document recording, I possess the proven institutional knowledge to lead effectively from day one,” Espinoza said in her announcement. “The responsibilities of this office are increasingly complex; the role of clerk and recorder requires more than administrative oversight — it demands a deep, functional understanding of the department’s intricate legal and operational requirements.”
The county clerk and recorder office is the among the county government offices that voters will decide in the 2026 election cycle. The position serves as the chief local election official, is responsible for managing local elections including voter registration and ballot counting, as well as dealing with motor vehicle services such as titles and plates, and recording public documents such as marriage licenses and real estate deeds.
Espinoza began working in the Clerk and Recorder’s Office nine years ago in the Motor Vehicle Division. She has worked under former county clerks Melanie Woodward and Nicole Jaramillo and works under current county Clerk Mari Felix.
Felix is currently mired in a district court proceeding. Her husband, Martin Felix-Lopez, was charged in 2023 with sexual abuse of a minor. Felix was originally charged with conspiracy, but the charges were later lowered to a single county of accessory to a crime.
Felix had a motions hearing for the accessory case on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in preparation for a week-long jury trial starting in March.
“I am running on a platform of ‘Service First,’” Espinoza said in her announcement, “aiming to transform the clerk’s office into an even more welcoming, efficient, and transparent resource for every resident.”
In her bid for office, she said she’s running on three community-centered pillars: Integrity Through Collaboration; Modernizing with Heart; and Enhanced Accessibility.
“Our community deserves a Clerk’s office that balances 21st-century efficiency with the personal, respectful service that Alamosa County is known for. I am excited about the opportunity to serve Alamosa County and to work together toward a prosperous future. I look forward to meeting with neighbors and friends throughout the campaign to discuss how the Alamosa County Clerk and Recorder’s Office can best serve the community in the years to come.”
Espinoza will run in the June 30 primary to be the GOP candidate for Alamosa County clerk and recorder.
