Living History: The Life of a Buffalo Soldier

August 1, 2025 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Regular park entrance fees apply.
On the left is a vintage photo of a man in uniform on a horse. On the right is a picture of a park ranger showing something to a child and their parent at a table.

Discover the powerful legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers, who patrolled the Great Sand Dunes region from 1876 to 1879. These segregated Black military units served with honor and courage during a challenging era, earning more Medals of Honor than any other U.S. military unit of their time. Join retired U.S. Army Medical Service Corps Officer Terrance Beasley for a free multimedia presentation at 11 a.m. at the Visitor Center, followed by a Q&A and hands-on exploration of a Buffalo Soldier tent and equipment display.
