As summer gradually gives way to fall, the San Luis Valley is preparing for a Labor Day weekend brimming with music, classic cars, and local festivities. Across towns from Creede to Alamosa and Antonito, everyone can expect a rich mix of cultural events, family-friendly activities, and opportunities to soak up the final warmth of the season.
Creede
Creede’s “Art of the Steel” festival, hosted by the Creede Musical Arts Collective, takes place over Labor Day weekend from Friday, Aug. 29, through Sunday, Aug. 31. This event celebrates the artistry of the steel guitar, attracting top-tier musicians from around the globe.
Festival-goers can look forward to a series of concerts, workshops, and community performances, many of which are offered free of charge.

- Listening Room Concert: Friday at CMAC HQ
- Happy Hour at the Historic Creede Hotel: Saturday evening
- Music in the Park: Sunday afternoon at Basham Park

In addition to musical performances, the festival will offer educational events such as voice classes, an interactive “Steel 101” session, a Community Jam, an Instrument Petting Zoo for kids, and a unique Sound Bath Cave Yoga experience.

Alamosa
Celebrating its 44th year, the Early Iron Festival is a premier event for classic car enthusiasts. Taking place from Friday, Aug. 29, to Sunday, Aug. 31, at Cole Park, this signature celebration draws more than 600 participants, showcasing vintage cars and culminating in a slow cruise down Main Street on Saturday evening. Find interactive displays, live music, and family-friendly activities, games and diverse food vendors.

Antonito
Every Labor Day weekend, Antonito comes alive with music, parades, food, and fireworks during the Antonito Labor Day Festival. Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 30, this tradition showcases the vibrancy of the region and celebrates the end of summer with family-friendly festivities.
The festival begins with a free community breakfast on Saturday from 7-9 a.m., followed by a parade down Main Street.
Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy live music performances, interactive games, craft vendors and food stalls.
Special attractions include the Salida Circus and a petting zoo with animal education exhibits. On Sunday afternoon, the Annual Car Show showcases classic and custom vehicles.
The grand finale Fireworks Extravaganza will be Saturday evening around 9:15 p.m.
