The Adams State University Department of Music is pleased to host a guest piano recital by Joshua Sawicki at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Leon Memorial Hall. Sawicki will perform solo piano works by Mozart, Grieg, Chopin, Gershwin.
The evening will include some two-piano works with James Wehe, D.M.A., visiting professor of music.
A pianist based in Denver, Sawicki appears regularly as orchestral pianist for the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, as a member of the new-music group The Playground Ensemble, and as principal pianist of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist with the Denver Philharmonic, Grand Junction Symphony, Greeley Philharmonic, Lakewood Symphony, Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Lamont Symphony Orchestra. Solo appearances and competitions have taken Sawicki to Paris, Manhattan, Utrecht, Novi Sad, Granada, Cambridge, Tampa and Aspen. He has received prizes from international competitions and can often be seen around Denver in chamber music performances alongside principal members of the CSO.Â
Aside from teaching privately, he teaches piano as affiliate faculty and piano area coordinator at Regis University and as adjunct faculty at the Community College of Denver. Sawicki has studied in Boston, New York, London, Tampa and Denver. His principal teachers include Steven Mayer, Rebecca Penneys, John O’Conor, Anthony di Bonaventura and Svetozar Ivanov.
