Charles William “Bill” McClure was killed by blunt force injuries to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the El Paso County Coroner’s office.
Saguache County Coroner Tom Perrin first released the cause and manner of death to the Citizen last week. The autopsy report obtained by Alamosa Citizen through an open records request details the full extent of McClure’s injuries.
Doctor of Osteopathy Jarod Murdoch was the main examiner who oversaw the autopsy in late December. Results were not released until the toxicology results were finished.
In Murdoch’s official opinion, he wrote, “Based on the history, scene investigation, autopsy, and toxicology findings, it is my opinion that Charles McClure, a 78-year-old white male, died as a result of blunt force injuries of the head. The overall findings and circumstances are consistent with this being caused by the actions of another individual(s).”
According to the report, McClure suffered multiple contusions and abrasions to the front, side and back of his head. McClure also had multiple contusions and abrasions on the back of his right hand.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation had “nothing new at this time” when asked for comment and an update on the investigation.
