The trailer to the movie “Rebuilding” opens with a familiar view, and for good reason. The new film by Bleecker Street was entirely filmed in the San Luis Valley and included more than 100 locals during production, according to Katie Dokson, who helped bring it all together as co-producer.

Now it’s headed to the big screen.

Rebuilding, written and directed by Colorado native Max Walker-Silverman and featuring Josh O’Connor, Meghann Fahy and Lily LaTorre, will open in select theatres on Nov. 14 and nationwide Nov. 21.

The Rio Grande near Los Sauces, the Monte Vista Sale Barn, La Jara Elementary and Capulin Library are among the sights that those familiar with the San Luis Valley will experience as part of the movie.

Filming took place in Alamosa, Capulin, La Jara, Forbes Park, among other locations in Costilla, Conejos, Rio Grande and Alamosa counties. Production was headquartered out of Alamosa during filming, with the costume department in the basement of what is now Church Project in Monte Vista.

“To me, this is a story about community, family, loss and hope. So many people came together to make this film and I’m so thankful and excited for everyone to see it,” Dokson said.

Rebuilding screened at the Sundance film festival before its distribution rights were acquired by Bleecker Street.
