Nearly a month after the death of Center resident and former town trustee Bill McClure, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation has made no public progress statement, and autopsy results from the Saguache County Coroner’s Office have not yet been released.
An email was sent to CBI strategic communications director Rob Low asking if CBI had made any progress in the investigation into McClure’s death and if there were any public leads or suspects they could share. Low responded, “Nothing new at this time.”
CBI is investigating McClure’s death as a homicide.
McClure was found dead in his residence on Tuesday, Dec. 23, after police conducted a welfare check.
“Center, Colorado, police asked us to take the lead this morning when officers found the body during a welfare check,” Low said at the time.
Saguache County Coroner Tom Perrin told the Citizen on Friday morning that the autopsy was not fully complete as he was waiting on toxicology results that could take another two to three weeks. Low told the Citizen on Dec. 30 that toxicology results take six weeks to complete.
When asked if he could provide a cause of death or manner of death, Perrin told the Citizen that he didn’t have any new information.
An inquiry was sent to the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s office asking if there were any updates.
Megan Martinez, DA office director of administration, said, “We do not have a statement at this time as this case is still under investigation. Thank you for reaching out though.”
Local contractors who were working on McClure’s garage had not seen him in a “couple days” and called local police to conduct the check. Center Police found McClure dead in the kitchen and called Alamosa Police Department detectives and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation.
Perrin told the Citizen in December that he couldn’t comment on how long McClure had been dead before he was found. A FaceBook post from McClure’s daughter, Robin McClure, the day before her father was found dead asked, “Has anyone seen my Dad? He’s been MIA [Missing in Action] since Friday.”
