The No. 3 seeded Adams State women’s basketball team had an off night at the worst possible time on Tuesday evening at Plachy Hall. With a screaming student section counting on the Grizzlies advancing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament, Adams State couldn’t find the basket all night and fell 63-60 in an upset loss to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

The Grizzlies shot 29 percent from the floor and trailed UCCS throughout the game. Down 15 in the second half, Adams State mounted a comeback and tied the score at 60-60 when Angelline Nageak hit a three-point shot with under a minute to play.
UCCS was called for a travel on the next possession and Adams State had a chance to pull out a victory after an evening of inconsistent play. A miss by Kiiyani Anitielu gave the ball back to UCCS, and with time running out Gia Bradley hit a three-pointer to seal the win for UCCS.

Adams State is still hoping for a berth in the NCAA Division II regional tournament based on the strength of a 19-win season. A win over UCCS would have helped that cause. Now it’s wait and see after a disappointing night at Plachy Hall.
