Colorado Senate District 6

Vivian Smotherman has filed to be a challenger to State. Sen. Cleave Simpson for the Colorado Senate District 6 seat. Smotherman is a Democrat from Durango who will take on the Republican from Alamosa. “The legislative issues I feel are central to my decision to run include improving and protecting Colorado’s education system, strengthening and expanding Colorado’s rural healthcare network and services, and finding ways to address Colorado’s critical shortage of affordable housing,” she said in her campaign announcement.

House District 62

On the House side of the Colorado Legislature, Rep. Matthew Martinez will face a re-election battle against the person he defeated two years ago. Carol Riggenbach, a Republican from Monte Vista, has filed to run again in House District 62. We had the candidates sound off during this episode of The Valley Pod in their 2022 face off. Martinez has been active legislatively in his initial term as a state representative, with bills addressing prison education and military veterans.
