Giant cottonwood tree with fall foliage native to Colorado Plains, also the State tree of Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas - looking up

A recent inventory recorded over 2,400 public trees in parks, city facilities, and curbside planting strips around Alamosa. Among the 75 identified species, the most common are Siberian elm, Colorado blue spruce, and crabapple.

The city of Alamosa, with support from Colorado State Forest Service, is working to plant more trees around the south end of town. News trees are already maturing around Sunset Park.
