Owners and proprietors of Kristi Mountain Sports, Eric and Lisa Burt, talked about the slow start to the ski season and their love and passion for bikes and cycling. Eric and Lisa have a long history of riding and providing bikes in the San Luis Valley. They share insight into the industry, what’s changing, what’s going back to normal, and how they find time to get out on the trails on a set of wheels.
episode 28: SLV GO! Esteban Salazar & Marcos Lobato
Esteban Salazar from SLVGO! brought their newest embajadore Marcos Lobato. Lobato is the newest embajadore in charge of getting community members outside, making sure they get their dose of nature. Salazar also laid out the groundwork for SLVGO’s newest community bike rides and walks. Social isolation from the pandemic-era is still rampant across the U.S. and Salazar says getting outside and getting physical is a surefire way to promote healthier social lives.

episode 26: Russ Schumacher
CSU Â Professor and Colorado State Climatologist Russ Schumacher is the final guest in The Outdoor Citizen snow series. He talks about how he became interested in studying climate at an early age in Minnesota. He gives a specialist point of view to agriculture and recreation in The Valley and how water and snow impact life here. Jones and Schumacher also talk rising temperatures and drought.
episode 25: Brian Puccerella
The Outdoor Citizen takes another look at snow in the San Luis Valley with Brian Puccerella. He returns to the show to talk about snow and avalanches. Puccerella is an avalanche education instructor for The American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education. His knowledge is tapped into and he shares on the changes he is seeing in the back-country.

Dan Bender, VP of marketing for Monarch Mountain, and host Marty Jones talked downhill skiing, the state of the ski industry, as well as the kind of snow that Monarch is getting.

The San Juan Nordic Club strives to make cross-country skiing accessible and fun for the people of The Valley. The give more perspective on what it means to groom trails and how it all started.

Valley Veterans Recreation is doing an ice-fishing tournament on January 13 at Mountain Home. SLV Go!’s Mick Daniel reflects on the last year. He also shares more about the SLV Go! innovative Tin Can Camp project.
