Three separate fires started in Alamosa on Wednesday are being investigated as suspicious. The Alamosa Police Department is investigating the nature of the fires that “appeared to be intentionally set” in structures in the 500 block of Alamosa Avenue, the 700 block of Ross Avenue and at Century Mobile Home Park on 1700 State Avenue.

CCTV pictures provided by APD show a person dressed in a black jacket with black pants and shoes with possible white soles.

An Instagram post from the Colorado Department of Fire Prevention and Control’s San Luis Valley Region 32 reported they had assisted Alamosa Fire Department with the three fires. The post read, “The fires were all started within approximately one hour, and have all been confirmed as being arson. The crews were able to get on these fires quickly, preventing more severe damage.”

APD Captain Brandon Bertsch told Alamosa Citizen that investigators are “trying to backtrack” the suspect’s movements through surveillance. Bertsch said he can’t confirm that all three fires are connected but APD “assume that at least two are connected.” APD is working with DFPC arson investigators to gather more information, he said.

The structures where the fires were started were all abandoned or unoccupied. The fires were reported at 1:54 p.m., 2:06 p.m. and 2:56 p.m.

Law enforcement is requesting public assistance, asking anyone with surveillance footage in those areas to contact investigators. Contact Colorado State Patrol Dispatch at 719-589-5807 or the Alamosa Police Department Investigations Division at 719-589-2548.
