Costilla County Public Health Director Paul Wertz was recognized by the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management at this annual conference held April 10-11 in Colorado Springs.

Wertz was the 2024 San Luis Valley award recipient for his work in Costilla County and the San Luis Valley emergency managers.

“Director Wertz’s leadership, hard work and dedication to excellence supported this well-deserved nomination,” said David R. Osborn, field manager for Colorado Division of Homeland Security in the San Luis Valley.

The Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (CDHSEM) annually hosts an Access and Functional Needs (AFN) Conference. The conference recognizes outstanding work by emergency managers in each region of the state.

Colorado has more than 230 emergency managers and emergency support partners working at the county and state level.
