Organizers of Annie’s Project are hoping for 25 participants to join them on Friday, March 20, at Cactus Hill Tiendita in Antonito to recognize 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer.
The mission of Annie’s Project is to empower farm and ranch women to be better business partners through networks and by managing and organizing critical information. No better person to help facilitate the effort than Elena Miller-ter Kuile, who runs a ranch herself and is owner of Cactus Hill Tiendita.
The CSU SLV Extension program is helping to organize Annie’s Project. Three sessions are scheduled beginning at 9 a.m. March 20, and then follow up dates on April 17 and 18.
Annie’s Project was launched in 2003 by University of Illinois Extension Educator Ruth Hambleton as a tribute to her mother, Annette Kohlhagen Fleck. The program honors “Annie’s” entrepreneurship and goal of raising a family and being active in the family farm operation.
Cactus Hill Tiendita under Elena Miller-ter Kuile serves as both a marketplace for local and regional foods and fibers as well as a meeting place for agriculture, the community and the arts of Conejos County.
