Hardy alpine plants and how to recreate responsibly among them is the topic of the next Rio Grande National Forest Service specialist series, scheduled for Wednesday, July 24.
The Forest Specialist Series program will focus on plants that can survive in some of the most extreme conditions on the Rio Grande.
“We’ll talk about types of alpine plant communities, go over some common and rare plants that occur on the Rio, and discuss responsible recreation in this fragile environment,” said Gregg Goodland, public affairs officer for Rio Grande National Forest.
The guest presenter is Rachel Hosna, who joined the Rio Grande National Forest in July of 2022 as a rangeland management specialist focusing on botany and invasive programs. She has a B.S. in biology and a M.S. in range science.
The talk will be offered remotely from 5-6 p.m. Use this Zoom link to participate.
